Olivia Cooke Joins Steven Spielberg's READY PLAYER ONE as Female Lead

Steven Spielberg's adaption of Ready Player One has found its female lead. Olivia Cooke had won the role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress beat out fellow actresses Elle Fanning and Lola Kirke for the role.

THR reports that Cooke will play "a Canadian blogger named Sam whose name in the virtual world is Art3mis." The actress delivered a breakout performance in this past summer's Me and Earth and the Dying Girl. Spielberg is still looking to cast an actor to play Wade, Ready Player One's male lead.

With Cookie joining Ready Player One, she's most likely out of the running for a major female role being cast for Star Wars: Episode VIII. Cookie was reportedly a top candidate for Star Wars along with Tatiana Maslany and Gina Rodriguez.

Ready Player One is scheduled to open on Dec. 15, 2017.
