TV SPOT: New 'Oz: The Great and Powerful' Commercial Is Heavy on the Corny Voiceover and Puns
"Which witch ... (pause for dramatic effect) ... is which?" That's a line in the latest commercial for Oz: The Great and Powerful. Seriously. I'm not kidding. This doesn't bode well for the movie. Great films don't get corny voiceovers. Do you remember seeing a commercial for Zero Dark Thirty where the corny voiceover guy goes, "It was her job to find out where Osama bin Laden ... (pause for effect) had Osama been hiding." No. Of course not. That would be awful.
I also find it funny how Disney has been marketing this movie as if we can't all figure out which witch (dammit) becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. Could it be Michelle Williams' witch who's clearly Glinda? Could it be Rachel Weisz's witch who doesn't appear to have an emotional connection to the Wizard of Oz? Or could it be Mila Kunis' witch who bonds with the Wizard, thus making her turn to evil all the more difficult for him? I mean, it's not like Kunis is a hugely marketable actress who you would want to build a franchise around or anything. Blerg.
