A 'Calvin and Hobbes' Movie? Leonardo DiCaprio Producing Bill Watterson Biopic
We may never get a Calvin and Hobbes movie, but if Leonardo DiCaprio has his way, we're in store for a movie about Bill Watterson, the creator of Calvin and Hobbes. On Tuesday, The Tracking Board reported that Warner Bros. had purchased a script called A Boy and His Tiger for DiCaprio to produce.
Watterson is having a moment right now. Even though Calvin and Hobbes has been gone for almost two decades, the cartoonist has been the subject of Dear Mr. Watterson, a documentary looking into his influence across pop culture, and actually gave Mental Floss an interview. The idea of DiCaprio producing a biopic about Watterson is fascinating.
Hopefully this project comes to fruition. DiCaprio has been on a biopic kick lately, attaching his name to a movie about Woodrow Wilson in September and a movie about Rasputin back in June.
The project, which will be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, Roy Lee and Rock Shaink, chronicles the early career of Calvin and Hobbes creator Bill Watterson, and his struggle with the sudden popularity, coverage, and licensing battles that came with creating one of the most influential comics of a generation.
