Hulu Passes on 'Community' Season 6, Sony Still Hopeful Show Lives On

The darkest timeline really is upon us — it appears that Hulu won't save Community and fulfill the show's "six seasons and a movie" prophecy.

TVLine reported on Tuesday that the streaming service had abandoned talks with Sony Pictures Television to pick up the canceled NBC series. Hulu has long been seen as the best (and only?) hope to save Community, as the service has an exclusive online-streaming deal with Sony Pictures Television for the show.

Despite Hulu passing on another season of Community, TVLine's sources claim that there's still a chance the series could live on, writing: "'Sony does not give up easily,' maintains a source close to the show, who hints that another player is still in the mix. 'A lot can happen in one week.'"

Sadly, it looks like this will be the second time in two years that Sony Pictures Television has failed to find a new home for one of its beloved-yet-low-rated shows. Fans of Happy Endings saw their hopes dashed last June when USA network passed on that show.
