CBS Announces David Letterman's Last Day Hosting LATE SHOW
The era of David Letterman hosting Late Show has an end date. CBS announced on Wednesday that Letterman's final episode will be Wednesday, May 20, 2015.
Ending on a Wednesday is kind of weird, but May 20 is the last day of the 2014-15 television season. On top of that, Letterman doesn't usually do live Friday shows, instead taping his Friday episode earlier in the week.
Letterman launched Late Show in August 1993, so he'll wind up hosting for a few months short of 22 years.
No word yet on when Stephen Colbert will taking over hosting duties for Late Show. James Corden, the new host of The Late Late Show, will begin his tenure on March 9, 2015, so he'll already be in place when Letterman signs off.
