Weekend Box Office Roundup (July 27-29)
$64.08 million ($289.09 million)
I saw several headlines on Sunday declaring that The Dark Knight Rises fell flat in its second weekend, which kind of baffles me. Yeah, it fell something like 60 percent from its opening weekend, but movies that make $160 million in one weekend tend to fall a bit their second weekend. The Avengers record-setting run was something special, and with the specter of the Aurora, Colo., shootings still looming over this film in addition to the Olympics opening ceremony drawing a huge audience on Friday night, The Dark Knight Rises put up a pretty good second weekend.
The Dark Knight Rises is just under $25 million behind where The Dark Knight was after its first 10 days, meaning its almost kept pace with its predecessor. Maybe this film isn't going to set all-time records, but it definitely hasn't flopped.
2. Ice Age: Continental Drift (2)
$13.30 million ($114.85 million)
I'm actually kind of surprised that Ice Age: Continental Drift held on the No. 2 spot at the weekend box office. I figured that anyone who really wanted to the see the movie would have already seen it, but I guess there's always summer groups that need to take kids to an animated movie.
3. The Watch (N)
$13.00 million ($13.00 million)
Yeesh. No one wanted to see this movie, huh? The Watch fell victim to many factors. The Trayvon Martin shooting at the hands of a neighborhood watch member. The movie theater queesiness that some people may be feeling after Aurora. And then there's the fact that The Watch is just not a good movie.

4. Step Up Revolution (N)
$11.80 million ($11.80 million)
Step Up Revolution had the worst opening weekend of any of the Step Up movies (there's now four of them, in case you were wondering). The original Channing Tatum version opened to $20.66 million.
5. Ted (4)
$7.37 million ($193.62 million)
Oh, Ted, so close to $200 million. Next week maybe? The Amazing Spider-Man did drop to No. 6 this weekend, making my Ted-for-Spidey swap prediction come true, just a week late.
Next week's predictions:
1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. Total Recall
3. Ice Age: Continental Drift
4. The Watch
5. Ted
