Bryan Singer Officially On Board to Replace Matthew Vaughn as Director of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'
This is shaping up to be a pretty impressive pop culture day. Following the news that Star Wars would be returning to theaters in 2015, Deadline has now reported that Bryan Singer will return to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past, the latest installment in the X-Men franchise that Singer kicked off in 2000. The film, which is the sequel to X-Men: First Class, was supposed to be directed by Matthew Vaughn but he dropped out last week.
As the director of X-Men and X2, Singer kicked of the current golden age of superhero movies. X2 still stands as one of the greatest superhero movies ever made. The last time the X-Men franchise lost a director (Singer, in this case), Fox brought in Brett Ratner to replace him. This was as close to a franchise-killing move as you can get without actually killing a franchise. Singer replacing Vaughn is a great move.
