Director Gareth Edwards Says Hi from the Set of 'Godzilla'

When Universal Pictures chose Colin Trevorrow to direct Jurassic Park IV last week, I mentioned how amazing it was to be living in an age when studios are handing massive franchises to directors who are known for making smart, small-budget films instead of just lining up to hire Brett Ratner. Legendary Pictures' choice of Gareth Edwards to helm its massive Godzilla reboot is exactly the kind of choice I was talking about.

Shooting on Godzilla, which is expected to terrorize theaters in 2014, began this week in Seattle, and Edwards shot a quick video to send his greetings to fans. You can find it after the jump. While the dreadful 1998 American version of Godzilla starred Matthew Broderick, Edwards' Godzilla film boasts an impressive cast made up of Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, David Straitharn and Juliette Binoche.
