BBC Releases Pics from 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special 'The Time of the Doctor'

Popculturology's growing obsession with Doctor Who continues. On Wednesday, the BBC released a bunch of pics from The Time of the Doctor, the show's upcoming Christmas special. The special follows up November's The Day of the Doctor and will be Matt Smith's final regular outing as The Doctor. Peter Capaldi will make his first regular appearance as The Doctor during the Christmas special, following up his cameo in Doctor Who's recent 50th anniversary special.

From the BBC, here's what you can expect during The Time of the Doctor:

Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them — the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.

The Time of the Doctor premieres on BBC One at 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Day. I'm not quite sure what that means for American audiences.
