ABC to Air Two Episodes of 'Happy Endings' at a Time (Basically Canceling 'B---- in Apartment 23' at the Same Time)

Happy Endings has never had one of its seasons aired in a normal way. The show's first season aired as a midseason replacement with its episodes out of order. Happy Endings' second season came to a quick end when ABC decided it wanted to premiere The B---- in Apartment 23 early. And finally, the show's third season has been screwed around with at almost Community levels. After ABC decided to air Happy Endings on both Sundays and Tuesdays, the network realized that was a poor idea. Seriously, no one watched the show on Sundays, something that we can probably blame on the fact that Revenge is an awful lead-in for a smart, quick comedy like Happy Endings.

On Tuesday, ABC announced that it would begin airing double servings of Happy Endings on Tuesdays, burning off the show's third season before Dancing with the Stars is scheduled to start up again at the end of March. I guess it's a good thing that we won't have to worry about the rest of Happy Endings' third season getting lost in some kind of scheduling shuffle (and we'll get to see Andy Richter as Penny's dad), but a network burning off a show like this isn't a good sign for its chances at another season.

So what does this mean for The B---- in Apartment 23?

Well, the biggest repercussion of ABC's move is that Apartment 23 gets lost in that very scheduling shuffle. While the network hasn't officially canceled the show, it's clear that Apartment 23 won't be returning in the fall. Apartment 23 star James Van Der Beek even took to Twitter this afternoon, making the following statement:

Sad to say ABC has pulled #Apt23 and will not be airing the 8 remaining episodes any time soon. Translation: we’ve basically been cancelled.
