BOX OFFICE REPORT (OCT. 18-20): 'Gravity' Wins Again; Chloe Grace Moretz's 'Carrie' Remake Opens at No. 3

What do you want to talk about first? The fact that Gravity won another weekend and is probably going to run the month of October? Chloe Grace Moretz's Carrie remake only managing to open at No. 3? Arnold Schwarzenegger's Escape Plan bombing? Benedict Cumberbatch's The Fifth Estate bombing even more?

1. Gravity (1)
Weekend gross: $31.03 million / Total domestic gross: $170.57 million /
Percent drop: 28.2
Gravity isn't going anywhere. There's a very real possibility that this film doesn't just win every weekend in October but also continues that streak into November. The biggest movies opening up at the next two weeks are Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa and Ender's Game. With Gravity's stellar ratings and super strong word of mouth, could it knock off those two movies? At this point, I think it's more on those movies to defeat Gravity than it is on Gravity to hold them off.

2. Captain Phillips (2)
Weekend gross: $17.30 million / Total domestic gross: $53.30 million /
Percent drop: 32.7
Like Gravity last week, Captain Phillips suffered only a modest second-weekend decline, dropping 32.7 percent, which — if estimates hold — will be enough to snag the No. 2 spot at the box office for another weekend.

3. Carrie (N)
Weekend gross: $17.00 million / Total domestic gross: $17.00 million /
Percent drop: NA
Carrie was Moretz's chance to show the world she could headline a movie. We've known for a long time that she could steal scenes in a supporting role (see: Kick-Ass), but the actress had yet to have a shot at carrying a movie on her own. I guess $17 million isn't a bad opening for Carrie, but I'm sure it's not what everyone was hoping for. Maybe she'll get another shot when a certain movie about wars fought in the stars announces its cast soon ...

4. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (3)
Weekend gross: $10.10 million / Total domestic gross: $93.14 million /
Percent drop: 26.7
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 continues to march right along with its predecessor's pace, trailer Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by roughly $2.5 million after its fourth weekend..

5. Escape Plan (N)
Weekend gross: $9.80 million / Total domestic gross: $9.8 million /
Percent drop: NA
So no one wants to see Schwarzenegger at the movies anymore? Escape Plan's $9.8 million opening looks even worse when you remember that The Last Stand, the actor's previous movie, opened to only $6.28 million on its way to a lifetime gross of $12.05 million.

Next week's predictions
1. Gravity
2. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
3. Captain Phillips
4. The Counselor
5. Carrie
