Disney Is Working On a Live-Action Prequel to ALADDIN

Disney's live-action binge continues. After bringing Maleficent and Cinderella to the big screen already and with plans to turn Beauty and the Beast and Mulan into live-action films, Disney's adding a live-action prequel to Aladdin to its roster.

Genies will "focus on the realm of the Genies and reveal how Aladdin's Genie ended up enslaved in the lamp," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The site reports that Genies will eventually lead into a live-action version of Aladdin.

Not sure about this one, especially if Disney is the studio working on it. That's not a knock on Disney — it's just the original Aladdin is a classic film. How is an actor going to live up to Robin William's iconic performance?

Genies has two big "Why is this necessary?" strikes against it. Do we really need to know how the Genie got in the lamp? And do we really need a live-action version? I'd settle for a nice blu-ray box set of the original Aladdin, The Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
