Jeff Daniels: 'Dumb and Dumber' Sequel Script Is 'Painfully Funny' (and Not a Money Grab)

Now that Universal Studios has rescued the sequel to Dumb and Dumber, star Jeff Daniels has opened up about the movie. One would think that based on Daniels' recent career choices of brainy dramas, including HBO's The Newsroom, the actor would be ready to move past the idiotic humor of Dumb and Dumber, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. In an interview with The Associated Press, Daniels called the script for Dumb and Dumber To "painfully funny" and boldly predicted that "I think it's got a chance to be I hope better than the first one."

Yes, Daniels is telling us there's a chance.
"We're middle-aged and still that stupid. Our IQ has not gone up one point combined," he said. "So it's a frightening thing. You're gonna see the two of us standing there trying to put thoughts together and you want to put underneath, `Kids don't do this at home.' It's that stupid."
Daniels also noted that Jim Carrey "has been against all sequels." I'm not sure if Daniels is referring to sequels to Dumb and Dumber or sequels in general, because Carrey didn't seem to have any issue cashing a giant check for Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.
