Martin Scorsese's 'The Wolf of Wall Street' Will Open in 2013, Remain a Major Oscar Contender

The Wolf of Wall Street's 2013 Oscar quest is back on. After weeks of speculation that director Martin Scorsese wouldn't finish cutting the film in time to release the film this year, the Los Angeles Times is reporting that The Wolf of Wall Street will open on Dec. 25.  The effects of Paramount's move will ripple through the race for the Academy Awards and the future of the studio's upcoming Jack Ryan reboot.

With The Wolf of Wall Street back in this year's Oscars, the race for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor will all be shaken up. While many critics pegged Twelve Years a Slave as the early favorite for Best Picture, I'm sensing that there may be a coming campaign against the film's borderline torture porn habits. This would open the door for The Wolf of Wall Street, Gravity or American Hustle to become the Best Picture favorite.

The Wolf of Wall Street stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Margot Robbie and Cristin Milioti.

Paramount will most likely push Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit into 2014 now, to avoid placing it in a busy early December.
