Will Wonder Woman Appear in Warner Bros.'s 'Batman vs. Superman' Movie?

Warner Bros. has been through several Superman and Batman reboots, yet the studio has never put Wonder Woman, the third part of its holy trinity of superheroes, on the big screen. Marvel managed to turn second- and third-tier properties like Iron Man, Thor and soon possibly Guardians of the Galaxy into huge franchises, but the most famous female superhero in the world has been left out.

While talking with Warner Bros. President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman, Variety brought up the possibility of Wonder Woman finally making the jump to movies in the studio's upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie.

“We have been doing a lot of thinking for years about how to best use all those characters and we love them,” Silverman said. “Wonder Woman is an amazing character. I think it’s a great opportunity both for box office success, but also to have an amazingly powerful female superhero.”

If Warner Bros. can make a Wonder Woman movie happen, it'll be a rare victory over Marvel. As I mentioned earlier, Marvel has created a massive megafranchise with Iron Man, Thor and the Avengers. They've done so with all their best characters — Spider-Man, the X-Men, Wolverine and the Fantastic Four — belonging to other studios. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has DC's best characters and can't find success beyond Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy.

Oddly enough, Warner Bros. once had Joss Whedon working on a Wonder Woman movie that could have starred Cobie Smulders for them, but that project fell apart. Now that Whedon is over at Marvel directing the Avengers films, I'm sure Warner Bros. wishes they tried harder to make his Wonder Woman movie happen.
