Thoughts on the New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

If you're like me, you just watched the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Several times. And you're going to watch it countless more times as the day goes along. The first new Star Wars movie footage went live on Friday morning, giving us our first look at director JJ Abrams' take on that galaxy far, far away.

And it's awesome. Like brings-tears-to-your-eyes awesome. Like run-around-waving-your-arms-like-Kermit awesome.

The trailer is heavy on the new cast for The Force Awakens. Fans hoping to see Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia might be disappointed — but they shouldn't be. This trailer is an epic triumph. Scored with new music from John Williams, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer features John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver (assuming he's the new Sith lord). There are a ton of classic moments — X-Wings, Stormtroopers, a droid, the Millennium Falcon.

Guys, the Millennium Falcon. With full Star Wars score blaring as it takes on a pack of TIE fighters.

The trailer also gives us a look at the movie's new Sith lord. While we don't see his face, we do get to see the crazy new lightsaber he's wielding. Sure, it's the traditional Sith red that we've come to expect from characters like Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Darth Sidious, but it has a fiery look to it. And it has tiny side lightsaber daggers too.

We still have a year to go until Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters. It's going to be a fun year.
