Jessica Chastain Denies Rumors That She'll Play Hillary Clinton in 'Rodham'
The report last week that Jessica Chastain, Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon and Amanda Seyfried were the favorites to play Hillary Clinton in Rodham was met with raised eyebrows by a lot of people following this film's progress (Popculturology included), and it looks like Chastain agrees with the skepticism too. The Zero Dark Thirty actress and Oscar nominee spoke with Digital Spy over the weekend and denied that she would be playing Clinton any time soon.
Asked about the Clinton movie rumors, Chastain replied: "No, that's actually not true. I found out about the project online, but, yeah, there's a lot of stuff out there."Look, I'm a big fan of Chastain's work, and I can't wait to see what she does in the future. That said, Rodham is a movie about a 26-year-old Clinton. For Rodham to work, a 20-something actress on the verge of stardom needs to be cast. (If you're looking for some suggestions, Popculturology already made them, and Rodham screenwriter Young Il Kim even gave that list his approval.) With Chastain's denial, I'm calling last week's report's bluff.
