TRAILER: Matt Damon and John Krasinski Are Ready to Battle It Out Over Drilling Rights

The first trailer for Promised Land, director Gus Van Sant's next film, hit the Internet on Friday. The film stars Matt Damon as a corporate salesman who arrives in a farming town to buy drilling rights to the land and John Krasinski as a local man who opposes Damon's character's actions. Frances McDormand, Hal Holbrook and Rosemarie DeWitt also star in Promised Land.

As the director of Good Will Hunting and Milk, Van Sant brings with him a good deal of Oscar creed, which would explain why Focus Features has scheduled a limited release for Promised Land on Dec. 28, 2012, just in time to qualify it for Oscar season. Interestingly enough, Krasinski and Damon wrote Promised Land together, which I would assume means that Damon and Van Sant are now cheating on Ben Affleck, their Good Will Hunting partner, with Krasinski.
